New York, NY, October 23, 2019 - Altagracia Nova captivates audiences by playing Oscar Wao's boisterous and protective older sister, Lola. “The role is very dynamic and complex. Lola is a force to be reckoned with. She is a Latina who is not ashamed of who she is and stands for women empowerment. She's a strong female who is an advocate for her Indigenous and African roots. Her instincts call for her to confront situations head-on and to protect herself and loved ones at all costs. Still, she tactfully balances the bravado of her nature with her humor. Making her relatable and likable to so many women of today.” Altagracia is an established actress, whose acting career spans over 10 years, and will now include Lola to her repertoire.
The NY Times published that Marco Antonio Rodríguez’s script for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao play is witty, and the play is culturally specific. A fusion of melancholy with comedic precision, and lends the opportunity to introduce a cohort of confident Latino actors to take center stage. The cast of seven, transcend the audience to a past that still reverberates strongly today with many Dominicans. Each actor breathes life to their characters, making them tangible and three dimensional. The realism of the language and cultural quirks are tastefully integrated with each role.
